It would be interesting to see the same numbers based on the posted amounts rather than a simple count of journal entries.

The important shift here is not that month-end disappears. It is that the work moves upstream.

Close pain has always been a diagnostic for operating architecture: integrations, source-system discipline, approval paths, entity structure, billing complexity, and where human judgment still has to sit.

AI-native ERP can shrink the scramble, but only if the company has enough process integrity to trust the standard path. Otherwise finance just gets a faster cleanup crew.

The close is becoming less of an accounting event and more of an operating-system test.
