Microsoft Access belongs in this history. Business users built applications around work they understood. IT shut those applications down but eliminating the application did not eliminate the need it served. Work moved back to spreadsheets and manual coordination
AI harness -> let the chaos in ;)
Insightful historical/strategic analysis.
A good read.
The post shows two ways to operate without skin in the game:
• “Let chaos reign”: celebrate experimentation while customers or the business bear the harm from data leaks and unauthorized actions.
• “Rein it in”: claim credit for protection while business teams bear the manual work and lost opportunities caused by restrictions.
Both let one party exercise authority while another bears the downside.
A veto needs skin in the game too.
