"Showing your work in public is the new warm intro" rings true, and this is actually how sell-side/buy-side reputation worked for decades (the analyst known because other analysts cite them). AI just made the mechanism visible to everyone. Plus, I am thinking if AI makes output abundant, the scarcest signal becomes taste, who you co-sign reveals your judgment, and judgment is the actual asset.
At its core, citations in academic literature, boosting h-index and related impact scores as signal for real-world impact. Social proof from others in the game. Now there are too many niches and audiences. Prestige can be easy to get if you're #1 on a tiny platform. Who's to say?

There were quite a few of these back in the 17th century too, though of course they are completely forgotten now.
