The counter to helping America and her allies is worth naming. DeepSeek's $7B raise this week โ Tencent $1.5B, CATL $740M, Liang Wenfeng $3B self-funded โ isn't venture capital. There are no LP return timelines, no fund life pressure. State-adjacent capital can hold positions that a16z's portfolio companies have to win against in 5 years, not 10. The global mission has to contend with a different capital architecture on the other side, not just better models.
Why yes certainly worth naming. As it happens the present American administration has discovered the virtues of sovereign wealth investment in strategic minerals, INTEL chips and energy. We have learned the worthy practices of the unnamed worth naming. Weโre ๐บ๐ธ just returning to the American system of Henry Clay, Lincoln, FDR - finance is building not rentier. We have always been a hybrid system, the interest of the Capitol has just turned inward again not outward . This is good for all concerned.
Given the recent geopolitical shifts, who would be considered America's allies today? Would NATO nations still be in the run for it? Would a generally-neutral country like India, which is keen to partner with the US in Tech, make the cut? Just curious to know how a tech-innovation-driven world is quickly re-aligning towards.
Thank you! Excellent points on the need to help international foundersโฆ Just a cursory look at protecting the Arctic borders with dual-use solutions exemplifies such a call for actionโฆ The threats are real, and so must be the global effort to address themโฆ

Thankful for all the investments and risks a16z and other SV VC's have taken over the years.
